I would deem myself to have a very eclectic taste in music, to say the least. I love my tunes and they are spread over a wide variety of genres. So let’s kick this off with a taste of the Caribbean and the songs that make me tick!
(5) Alkaline – Side Chick
Not only am I a big fan of Alkaline’s image and swag, I am also a massive fan of this tune. The 23-year-old produced this Dancehall track last year and it has had plenty of playtime when I am dropping some tunes in my living room! It comes from his debut album New Level Unlocked, sadly his tour of the UK saw several cancellations last year due to security issues, as was his trip to Brixton Academy this year when the sell-out event saw fans charge the doors.
(4) Konshens ft Chris Brown – Bruk Off Yuh Back
Wah dis make you feel like do? Wah dis make you feel like do?Another top Dancehall track from the Jamaican, Konshens, where he teamed up with Chris Brown to produce this barnstormer of a tune! Also released last year its a very catchy track and one that will have you joining in, in next to no time. Bruk Off Yuh Back!!
(3) Chronixx – Legend
I actually heard this reggae tune in the back of a cab in Jamaica and found myself immediately using Shazam to find out more, I love absolutely everything about this track. It should come as no surprise just how talented this lad is, as he is following in his father’s (Chronicle) footsteps in the industry! By all account, he wrote his first song aged just 5 years old. This is from his Chronology album, a mellow track that could easily be higher in the charts. Class tune!
(2) Alison Hinds – Roll it Gal
This tune just reminds me of chillin’ on a beach/poolside bar in the Caribbean. Absolute bliss! The Queen of Soca released this top, top tune back in 2007 in the UK but it was actually released in Barbados back in 2005. It gets me everytime I hear it and can often stay in my head all day as I groove along to it. The track is all about female empowerment and is sooooooo good that Rihanna got herself involved in a re-produced version with J-Status. This is a supreme tune! “When them fly up in yea face gal, Make them know them place”.
(1) Vybz Kartel feat Spice- Ramping Shop
Now Vybz has a rather large dossier of tracks that could have easily made this list. Yuh Love, Wine To Di Top, Colouring This Life, Hello, My Heaven My Hell and Summer Time are all bangin’ tunes to name a few. He could have a blog dedicated to his top 10 alone! Ramping Shop is the first one I discovered though and has often been seen on repeat on my Spotify, it was released in 2010 by this Dancehall genius. You don’t get the nickname of ‘Worl Boss’ for no reason and this sexy tune says it all. Samples of Ne-Yo’s Miss Independent track are used, but if you want my opinion Vybz delivers it in easily better fashion! That’s why this dude is the Dancehall King! Pon Di Gaza!
